About us

This website has been made to help you to care for your friend or relative with a brain tumour. There is a range of information to help you look after yourself as you care for someone else. A group of researchers and health professionals from four universities (the University of Queensland, Curtin University, the University of Western Australia, and Queensland University of Technology) have partnered with carers to make the information you need easy to access.

The People Behind the Scenes of the Website

Dr Helen Haydon is a psychologist and research fellow, building on the much-needed work of Prof Nowak, Associate Prof Halkett and Dr Langbecker. She is lead investigator of this latest stage of the research.
Associate Professor Georgia Halkett is a senior research fellow with a background in radiation therapy. Alongside Professor Nowak, she developed the original in-person program that this website is based upon.
Professor Anna Nowak is a medical oncologist who worked alongside Associate Professor Halkett to develop the original in-person program that this website is based upon.
Professor Thea Blackler is a researcher in intuitive interaction and part of the QUT Design Lab. She worked on the  design of the website to make it effective and easy to use.
Dr Danette Langbecker initially led the development of this website and gained funding for the pilot project. Her research focussed on the needs of people with brain cancer and their carers.

Funding and the Broader Program of Research

The pilot project was funded in 2019 by the Sam Ryan Memorial Award. The current research project is funded by The Commonwealth of Australia represented by the Department of Health as part of the 2019 Brain Cancer Survivorship grant opportunity through the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF). This current project is part of a broader program of research which addresses: (1) Needs assessment; (2) Optimising models of survivorship and supportive care; (3) Improving experience through better information; (4) Care for the Carer website support and; (5) Improving rehabilitation and supportive care interventions. The University of Queensland is a partner with The University of Sydney in the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) – Australian Brain Cancer Mission: 2019 Brain Cancer Survivorship Grant Opportunity for the program of work entitled: Brain cancer Rehabilitation, Assessment, Interventions for survivorship Need (BRAIN), which is being led by University of Sydney’s Associate Professor Haryana Dhillon and is a collaboration between 14 universities and institutions in health services.
